Born by C-section on December 15, 2013, Scorch is an exciting addition to our pack.  She's the daughter of our beloved and very accomplished boy Major, so we expect great things from her!  Major's registered name is Winterstarz Ursa Major, the constellation also known as the Big Dipper.  Scorch is named Tania Borealis, which is a star in the Ursa Major constellation; so Scorch is a star of Ursa Major.

The generosity of our good friends and mentors Helen and John Schultz, of Tol Istari Kennel, was crucial to produce Scorch.  They generously agreed to lease their girl Thick't, Ch Istari's Th' Plot Thickens, WWPD, to us for this breeding.  We were excited to produce two stunning girls from this mating.  Scorch's sister Janna, Winterstarz Kujannamik, has gone to live with Cees and Erna Hartveld in the Netherlands, and we look forward to news from Holland!
  And maybe a future visit...

We call Scorch our Energizer Bunny, she loves to run on the team and can go and go.  She earned her Working Team Dog title sledding in the 2014-15 winter season.  In the Fall of 2015, we started training her in lead, partnered up with our experienced leader Wes.  She's getting the hang of the gee-haws and loves being in front so she can set a quick pace!

Scorch is showing good promise in weight pull and easily earned her United Weight Puller title in 2015; followed by her UWP-Champion title in 2017.  She performed very well at the Alaskan Malamute Regional and National pulls in Sturbridge, Massachusetts in November 2015, impressing the crowd and earning her first Excellent leg, out-pulling several bigger dogs.

Scorch loves pack hiking and truly enjoys any extra exercise. Even with a full weight pack, she is ready to go!  She earned her Working Pack Dog title in the Fall of 2015, completing over 40 miles of hikes in what natives agree was the most gorgeous fall Minnesota has ever seen.  We were pleased to be out on the trails with Scorch and her nephew Orion, getting these hikes in and enjoying the fall colors.

Scorch is a sweet girl who loves meeting new people and children.  She earned her Canine Good Citizen title at Responsible Dog Ownership Day in September 2015.  We've taken Scorch to multiple weight pull demonstrations and a dog sledding demo for 250 schoolchildren.  She has enjoyed meeting Scouting troops, cuddling up to kids we meet on our pack hikes, and has been an ambassador for the Alaskan malamute at Meet the Breed events.

In Spring 2017, Scorch went back into obedience training to prepare for Rally competition.  Her ultra fast, "hit the deck" downs are a delight to our teacher.  Scorch earned her United Rally Obedience -1 title in one weekend, including one trial where she scored a perfect 100 and earned the High in Trial award based on her quick time.  The three dogs vying for HIT had times within two seconds of each other, so those rapid downs paid off in competition!  Scorch earned her AKC Rally Novice title at the Alaskan Malamute National in Huron Ohio in 2017, with first and second place finishes in a large entry.

Scorch earned her conformation Championship from the United Kennel Club in 2015 with several Best of Breed wins and Group placements. She won back to back majors toward her AKC Championship at the Fargo-Moorhead show in June 2017.  We are very proud of our sweet, hard working addition to our family and team!

In 2015, Scorch was bred to Raider and had a beautiful litter of seven pups.  We kept a girl, Rae, from this breeding.

Scorch was awarded the All Around Alaskan Malamute title at the 2017 Alaskan Malamute National Show - the 21st dog in our breed to achieve this honor - and the sixth dog from our kennel.  In addition, she was the second dog sired by our boy Major to earn the AAAM.  Major was AAAM #3.
